Latest Broadbandtrends Survey Finds Service Providers are Crazy About Gfast

Telecompetitor reported on the latest Broadbandtrends survey, which stated more than 80 percent of service providers have 2018 Gfast deployment plans and 27 percent are in live deployments. The annual Broadbandtrends Global Service Provider survey takes the pulse of the service provider community worldwide. This year, 33 incumbent and competitive broadband operators around the globe weighed in on a variety of topics.

Some highlights from the survey include:

  • Fiber-to-Building with the DPU in the basement was cited as the top use case for 100 percent of survey participants.
  • Average downstream speeds of 500-1Gbps are expected with most Gfast service.
  • Support for the 1Gbps aggregate speed; extended bandwidth at 212MHz; and Dynamic Timeslot Assignment (DTA) were considered the most important emerging/newly available Gfast capabilities.

We couldn’t agree more with the survey, as more service providers look to Gfast deployments for the MDU community. DTA is a major consideration as it allows service providers to compete with cable operators offering full duplex DOCSIS 3.1 deployments. DTA allows service providers the flexibility to provide customers with high-speed upload and download times. To learn more about Sckipio’s DTA capabilities, visit:
