One of the most common use-cases for Gfast is in the basement of apartment buildings. In this scenario, MDU owners can offer true gigabit services without the complexities and inconvenience of large construction projects and expensive deployment of fiber to each apartment.
In this scenario, fiber is brought to the basement or side of the building and connected to either pizza-box rack-mounted units or sealed boxes. The number of residences supported can vary from 8 ports on the low-end to 96 ports on the high end. In this environment these devices may be locally powered or may require reverse power feed – depending on the exact location used. In addition, at this distance, there are benefits for using bonded Gfast to deliver very high speeds.

One benefit of cross-DPU vectoring is a single DPU SKU can be used to support multiple configurations.
